Service Engine Soon

Well, my service engine soon light has been on now for a while in the Pathfinder. It all started when my car broke down around Thanksgiving. Sweet Sam remembers it the most. He reminds me all the time, "Moma, do you remember when the car broke and you cried and the police man came then daddy and Patrick had to come get us?" "Yes, Sam, mommy remembers her complete and total meltdown."

Ok, I am for sure a control freak! My car stopped working and people were zooming by me...I had a hundred things to do that day...people to see...flu shot to get for Sam...photoshoots to do and edit...Christmas shopping to start...and NOW my car wants to break down. THIS IS NOT COOL. All I could see was how much my car was going to cost to get fixed. I was at my melting point. I literly almost puked out in the parking lot as I waited for our mechanic (Roger Clanton) to come to the rescue and look at the car.

Obviously, the car is fixed now (thanks, Roger) but you know how those crazy sensors are so, my light is still on, but car is FIXED.

Well, this Service Engine Soon light has really got me thinking...especially since it stares me in the face everyday. Do we as Christians have a Service Engine Soon light? Do we need a tune up sometimes? Oil change? Tire rotation? A fill up? Do we get crud in our systems and then we don't run right? I mean think about it...

What if our tempers were our "low -dirty oil" in our systems?

What if we are tired because we are out of gas?

What if we were stuck because we had a flat tire?

What if one of our sensors were off and we were literaly blinking our SERVICE ENGINE SOON Light?

Bottom line...if we don't take care of ourselves...we will be on the side of the road stuck!

So how do we keep ourselves "tuned up"? Well, we go see our mechanic...God. But that is only when something is broken, so maybe mechanic is not the right word. Hmm..

I love to drive! Especially if it's a pretty day and I just need to think. Maybe we need to just DRIVE....but look at your Garmin now, who is giving you direction? Is it your job? Who do you follow? Where are you going? How fast or slow do you need to go? What road are you on?

So maybe God is the car...we need to take care of Him as He takes care of us and gets us where we need to be...BUT if we don't' take care of our car..we will break down until we get things fixed again.

Ok..this maybe all a little to much to think about this late at night, but I just think God is tyring to tell me...SERVICE YOUR ENGINE!!! Sure I pray...I go to church...I do nice things for people...but I am mess. My service engine light is on. I need a tune up. Daily prayer life and intentional time spent with God in His word.

Hmm....sounds like a plan.
